Expert advice necessarily implies that someone has a wealth of real practical experience of a particular breed to draw on. This would include its heritage/reason why it was created, an appreciation of how the dominant characteristics & temperament shapes the way a dog will think & behave, has worked & proved dogs against the standard & owned multiple examples of the breed. What I attempt to provide is a *considered* opinion based on 15+ years of owning, showing, working with breed rescue & independent research. I am aware that the genetic inheritance of a dog will set the parameters of what a competent owner can achieve & that as every dog within a breed is an individual, it will not be a carbon copy of my dog & cannot be expected to respond the same way. My advice is therefore generalised to reflect this fact & people can consider it, then research the breed further or choose to dismiss it out of hand. I will not sugar coat the reality of owning a Dobermann, as it does no-one any favors least of all the dog. Blunt yes, but if I can dissuade one wrong person from committing to owning a breed that is anything but easy to own, then I will consider it to be a job well done. I fully appreciate that I will never know everything & that will always be more to learn. I don't blindly follow the advice of anyone in Y/A, but if it's an intelligently written, substantiated & thought provoking point, I will take the time to research, evaluate & possibly act on it.
