I always thought that it was 55 (last year for me) and I looked forward to those discounted meals! I know what you mean about the pains, but being older really is not that great. Wait till the hormones kick in, then the body goes, etc.

In most things you are a senior at age 55. I'm 63 and don't feel like a senior. People confuse the terms senior citizen and elderly. There is a huge difference.

I got honorary membership at 33 when I found out what it's like to be 85--it's called a brain tumor. So now I made the early cutoff, 55 for discounts at some establishments and I'm still alive and glad for my health more than getting the benefits!

You cannot join AARP until you are 50 not 45. And, you get quite a few discounts with that. But, I think with all the baby boomers,my places have raised the senior discount to 62 or 65. A few are still at 55.

And as far as health benefits for all those aches and pains.....do you have a health care plan.....if not a majority of your income will go to the insurance that you will need.

I hear you. It really depends. Ask for the discounts you might be surprised. You technically can't join AARP until You are 45. However, if you are younger than 45 and your spouse is a member you can join too. Some places, give you a discount at age 50, some 55, some 60 most of them are at 65.
