Hello,

My toyota corolla (1997 CE) car Wipers have suddenly stopped working. Three days back there was a heavy snowfall followed by very low temperature. Ice was rock hard over Wiper blades and I tried to turn on Wipers to clean the windshield. There was a loud click like sound and since then Wipers aren't working. Is there any home remedy to repair this dysfunction? I mean how difficult is it to repair this by myself? I can manually move Wipers to clean windshield. When I manually place Wiper blades on the middle of the windshield and then try to power on Wipers, there is annoying clicking sounds as if something is trying to hold the Wipers inplace against the force.

I thank you very much in advance for your suggestions.

the wiper transmission(that's what it is called, has popped off the arm hooked to the wiper motor....its a round plastic-like ball that pops into a socket...if you open hood can you see wiper motor? chances are all the linkage is under cowl below the blades. that piece should come off after you take off the wiper arms. have key off before putting hands in there!!!!! see f you ca re attach...if not broke,a little grease may help it back together....p.s. may be a small clamp type thing holding it on...loosen nuts and pop back in....good luck

It sounds to me like it is your wiper arm motor. Usually the repair is not that expensive, but it does require a service professional to do.

Check all the fluids and most importantly make sure the tires are inflated to whatever Toyota recommends for this car. The Corolla should be able to make that trip with triple the mileage you have.
