Mr Bumble – the parish Beadle and leader of the orphanage. He's officious, corrupt, a chronic mangler of the King's English, and a great source of comic relief.

Mr. Bumble is the beadle, or minor parish official, in the town in which Oliver grew up. He eventually married the proprietress (Mrs. Mann) of the "house" where Oliver grew up. See http://www.online-literature.com/dickens/olivertwist/3/ for the reference to both Mr. Bumble and Mrs. Mann.

Mr. Bumble is also the man who named Oliver Twist.

Mr. Bumble also is, basically, the go-between for the workhouse and the board who oversee it.

BTW: Later Mr. Bumble and his, then, wife figure into the story concerning the truth of Oliver's family and an item that proves who he actually is.
