I think that is because Adrian is more like Eric Dickerson.
Barry was all of 5'8".
Barry is the best of all time, no doubt in my mind. Just hard to compare Adrian to him as they are much different runners.
And he has done nothing yet to be mentioned in the same breath as Barry Sanders as far as stats go.
I am a huge A.D. fan, so don't mean any offense towards him. Just telling the truth.

Barry Sanders played the "I will only play in my prime" card so everyone would look at his half of a career and assumed if he went for another ten years he would have the same numbers.
Barry is a great back don't get me wrong, but, Adrian Peterson (MIN) has had a much better start to his career than Sanders did. It took Sanders a year or to (respectively) to set straight.
It is more or less that nobody expected Adrian Peterson to have such a breakout year in his rookie season; whereas Sanders had the most ridiculous expectations.
How many Rings did Sanders have?

vision is a factor, too. won't write an essay on that physiological aspect of elite athletes in all sports, but vision is a very big deal. for example, big, huge lovable Shaq has bad depth perception. He cannot learn to shot from the line. He overcompensates with height and strength. He slams everything by feel.
It is hard to know which running backs has it but Adrian Peterson has it. He has it all plus always seems to know exactly where he should be and when to put himself in perfect positionon to apply great leverage and make would be tacklers just miss and unable to get the angle. He is jackrabbit quick and has remarkable vision.
Even more than Barry Sanders.

maybe it's because peterson's running style is very different from sanders, he tends to run linebackers and DB's over, not make crazy sideline to sideline sprints behind the line of scrimmage. it's the same reason that barry was compared to gale sayers and hugh mcelhenny instead of jim brown and walter payton.

Barry Sanders should be given his due in terms of his talent on the field, but the way he left the Detroit Lions shows that he has the class of a common garden slug.

Maybe because Barry bailed on the Lions...and retired without warning, right before training camp in 2000 or whenever it was...

You mean the guy who's career was cut short because he played for one of the NFL's worse franchises and couldn't take it any more?

he has a totally opposite running style. he runs upright and with more power but less shifty-ness. he is more like an eric dickerson. they both went to college in oklahoma, they have that in common
