As a buyer/seller on ebay, I have found the following to be true:

1) 17% of users on ebay are scam/fraudsters. Sellers misadvertising products or selling items they dont have. Buyers deliberately non/part/bogus paying or claiming item is faulty/not received etc
2) 20% use ebay it for entertainment. "Online dosser-rats who hang around in chatrooms all day long watching lots of items for auction but seldom bid.
3) 20% are resellers who don't really want the item & are simply trying to take advantage of other sellers. These idiots start a bid $20 for something that is worth $300 and dont bid again when they get outbid.
4) 33% are cheapskates who don't really want the item but will have it if they can get it for next to nothing. Similar to the types of people who only buy secondhand, the boot sale types, charity shop types who have no class or quality.
6) 10% are genuine buyers who pay a decent price. Only 10% who are genuine buyers, I won't be selling on ebay again.

You left me out. I am an honest seller of mostly used items, and make a decent second income from my hard work, and knowing what to sell. Your figures don't figure, in other words. If you read my feedback (3598 feedbacks, 100% Positive), the majority of my customers are very happy with their purchases, and pay right away. I think you are being unfair to the honest buyers & sellers that are out there on eBay. Unfortunate that you had such a negative experience with it. ( My eBay name is not_new_but_cool ).

I don't know where you came up with those statistics....
As a seller, you'll always have the upper hand.... not many people purposely and consistantly bid and then don't pay.... and if they do, you report em and get your listing fees back...
As a buyer, just be careful, don't buy foolishly. If it's someone that has 10,000 transactions and 100% rating, they're not a scam.
