I am typically apolitical, so forgive any ignorance, but someone used this phrase in an answer and it did not make sense to me.

Either side can produce a dictator. Dictators come from thinking their way is right for everyone or from just not caring about the people, not the specific ideology.

Despite what many people will lead you to believe gov't theory is not organized as a straight line with anarchy on one side and left wing dictators on the other. Its not even a circle as I used to think.
Look at Communism vs. Fascism--theyre different in the way they go about things, but almost idential in the effects.

Socialism and anarchy are almost identical in practice when used properly (neither of which can be done of course). Theyre both direct control by the people with no true leader stepping up. The main difference comes in how you get to that point and whether or not you can break away from the majority and do your own thing. (Compare a militia-anarchist, to an African tribal community where the whole community has to agree on everything-sociologist).

The real problems here are that no pure system will ever work without perfect people, and we insist on lumping everything into one category when a functional gov't requires bits and peices of multiple philosophies to succeed.

Youre not a moron, youve just been duped by the fear mongers who want you to assume that something is evil when in reality it is neutral, and its how its used that makes it good or bad.

Not all dictators are right wing. Castro, for example, describes his own regime as a Marxist dictatorship.
Stalin was also a dictator and was General Secretary of the Communist Party. His crash programs of industrialization and collectivization in the 1930s and his campaigns of political repression cost the lives of millions of people.
So, I guess that right-wing dictator isn't really an oxymoron to answer your question.

As most dictators world wide are right wing, it is more a tautology than an oxymoron.
