When you are studying, make your work the center of your life to the exclusion of everything else.
When you're with your girl/boyfriend, make her/him the center of your life to the exclusion of everything else.
And when you're playing video games, or drinking, or watching TV, make that the center of your life to the exclusion of everything else.
Don't ever try to mix them. It only causes stress and makes everything worse.

All of the friends you make as a freshman who are also freshman will not be at college the following year... esp those from your dorm.
Yes, you will be given the same crappy dorm room every year even if you hate it. Wishing they would assign you a new room every year is not the same as asking for one.
If you make it to a senior status, it is really cool... most of the people in these upper classes are the same people and you get to know them pretty well. Also the teachers you prob will know already and have had for other classes and have a good feeling for what they want and what to expect. makes a big difference. I has several of the same teacher for more than one class.
If I had it to do over again I think i would work less... but that really want an option for me then.

I wish someone would have told me to stop biting off more than I could chew. At the end of the day, no one gives you an extra cookie just because you did things the hard way.
If you bomb the first exam, drop the class. Try again next term. It's better than bombing the first exam, then bombing the second one, then hoping for a miracle on the final -- and not getting one.
If you attend a university with a legendary professor, take a class with him or her. It's worth it. While you're at it, go ahead and take a totally absurd course in something that has nothing to do with whatever it is you're doing. Bonus points if it's taught by a legendary professor.

I wish I would have been told to take the study skills course my first semester of freshman year, because then maybe I would not have had to wait until my first semester of my senior year to have a professor point out to me that there is a much simpler way of taking notes that will maximize retention and reduce study time!
I wish I would have been encouraged to take the speed reading course, because after I finally took it (for shits and giggles) I realized how beneficial it really is to be able to read quickly and jot down notes.
I wish someone would have told me the importance of always seeing your advisor prior to registering for classes- even if you think you know exactly what you need for graduation.
I wish someone would have told me that limiting partying to just the weekends really is o.k. and it doesn't mean you'll be an outcast. I could have had a 4.0 all 4 years instead of just my last 2.

I wish I was told college is all about how you study. How you study has everything to do with learning in college, and also how you pay attention in class. All I was told was college will be difficult. Bull, it is not as long as you stick at it and really put deep thoughts into learning. To me, easier than high school. A lot of it is teaching yourself along with learning from great professors; taking a grain of salt from the not so great ones.

well that it won't be the same with high school. People always said that they want to get out of high school but what they do not know is that college life is hard. Even though we won't have to face a lot of peer pressure just like when we were in high school. People who works in college such as the counselors, some of professors, and people who work in administration are kind of mean and they seem like they do not care about you. In high school our counselors, people who work in administration and the teachers are wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy nicer... they seem to care a lot. I think thats the only advice that i want to give.

I wish I hadn't been scared off from science classes and told to take easy classes just to get a good GPA.
Instead, I wish someone had told me to take classes I was interested in, because those are the ones you do well in, anyway.

Decisions you make now, especially the negative ones, can effect the rest of your life.
Think things through!
But also, not everything is as big of a deal as it seems.
Expect and embrace surprises in life.
And finally, the best blessings in life come in disguise.
Merry Christmas

Don't declare a major right away. Get gen ed out of the way and then decide what you really want to do after the first year then declare a major. Otherwise you have a lot of wasted time and energy in a field you don't really like.
