If you want to pay, you can evaluate what I use for the past ten years. My antivirus is also used by the Govt. Of China and has a state of the art background scanner that kills in real time. If you open any webpage that has an embedded virus or spyware, the scanner will kill in a second. Same if you download compressed files, normal files, music, etc. etc., will kill the file if there is an embedded trojan, or virus. Also will kill any file that does not have a valid Lic., or name of the publisher. You can test evaluate for thirty days with a key that they will give to you. You only pay a one time fee of $29.99 for life. Includes daily updates X 3 and all new versions for life. http://www.filseclab.com

Or if you want free you can download the free home for personal use with a background scanner and update on the hour. http://www.avast.com Download the free Avast.

Sounds like you're being affected by a fake anti-virus in that online scan, which reports false positives - it tells you that you are infected to try to get you to pay for a full program which mostly does nothing, and can actually open up your computer to more attacks. These programs go by names such as AV2009, Windows AntiVirus, Antispyware Pro XP and others. Google the name of the one you're using to see if it's fakeware or not. I recommend AVG (but don't use Ad-Aware with it, there's a conflict). Avira and Avast are also reliable. Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware AE kill spyware as does Malwarebytes. Don't get viruses and spyware confused. You need one anti-virus and preferably two anti-spyware programs for coverage. Also try downloading and running RootKitty or Panda's Anti-Rootkit (both free). Rootkit viruses hide themselves so well that normal anti-virus won't normally find them. If you were expecting Ad-Aware to kill viruses, it won't. I've always found it to be very reliable on dealing with spyware, though. Post back any follow-ups if you still have problems.
