Back in the 80s, when he was a CIA "freedom fighter" they were fighting against the Soviets who wanted to help Afghanistan modernize, reform land ownership and provide free education to all. Freedom fighters were the rich landowners and religious zealots who wanted to hold on to all of the land, and didn't want women to get an education. It looks like we are back to square one over there.

Actually, his war cry is the liberation of all Muslims from Western tyranny and corrupting influence.
Obviously, westerners don't think Muslims are oppressed or corrupted by the West (expect perhaps for the Palestinians, which are in fact oppressed by a Western power), while the vast majority of people all over the world don't agree with his methods to wage war (terrorism).

The freedom for Islamic extremists to spread their ideology and crush infidels. If you were of that mindset, you'd see him as a freedom fighter.
Edit: Some people have absolutely no ability to see things objectively. That's scarier than Bin Laden.

the problem concerning Bin Laden, is that he thought that by killing Americans, it would get him a place in heaven, but he musta never knew God's commandment THOU SHALT NOT KILL

well back in the mid 80's he was tough stuff against the Russians.. and Big US government loved his freedom fighting A$$ for it.. fast forward 20 years and apparently he's still doing their dirty work.
