Do you use the changing tables in the public bathrooms?

2007-12-21 10:35:21 · 9 answers · asked by georgia_peach 6 in Pregnancy & Parenting Newborn & Baby

My son's are nine, six, and three. The only times I ever used the changing tables were if I was at the movie theatre or an amusement park... somewhere I was going to be for a while.

My two older son's and myself are what you might call germophomic's.
In public I would change my son in the van - I hated using the public changing tables.

I've used it once because there was not another place I could change his diaper, as I was walking. When that happens, I bring a changing pad and then put it in another bag to disinfect it later. Usually I'' do it in the car right before I go in the market or something. Those things are so dirty!! I'm not even a germophobe!

Most of the places around here have disposable pads to put down on the change table so those I don't mind. If they don't have them then I'll use my own changing pad. Sometimes baby needs to be changed and I can't always go out to my vehicle to do it (plus it's winter here and the car would be too cold!). When I've had to I've thrown a receiving blanket down on the floor with the change pad on top of it (stupid Tim Horton's with no baby changing station!!).

However I am not a germaphobic. I certainly am conscious of the cleanliness level of where my son goes but if I don't allow him to be exposed to germs he won't develop a strong immune system.

You have good reason to not want to use them. My niece contracted a roto virus and the only place we could pin point it too was a public bathroom as my sister was soo cautious about everything.
I have used changing tables in public places but only after I took out my lysol wipes, and put down my own changing pad and it was typically when it was an emergency.

Only if I have to. I'll make sure to lay a receiving blanket on the changing table so he's not actually touching it.

I always carried a small container of clorox wipes with me and if I or a friend ever needed to use them I first wipe them with the wipes then put down a recv blanket and then will use them. Other than that heck no, you don't know what others have used them for and what they have put on them.
