Everyone is different. Have genetic counseling, an NT Scan (which is an ultrasound), and an integrated screen blood test done (about 12 weeks or earlier) . I am 36 and almost 8 months pregnant. Based on the results of all of these tests my chances of having a baby with DS is the same as that of a 25 year old.
If the tests show a high risk then you can decide if you want further testing done...cvs or amnio.

39 does NOT give you an excessively high chance of a Downs' baby. Only slightly higher than if you were 29. More importantly, do not smoke, drink, or use harder drugs. Take nice long walks every day for exercise, and watch the freakin' diet! And for cryin' out loud, talk to the Doc about this NOW! No point in worrying yourself sick when you can just ask!

quite low at 39 about 1%,, you are best getting a blood test though, which is non invasive so no risk,(you will robably be offeed this anayway regardless of age) depending on how you'd feel about giving birthto a Down Syndrome child you may wish to opt for an amnio, but bear in mind the risk of misscarriage may be higher with an amnio than the risk fctor of having a downs child.........

Think about it this way, although your chances are higher to have a child with Down's since you are older than 35, 80% of children born with Down's are born to women under 35.

I'm not sure what the odds are of your baby have down syndrome, but I think the better question would be what are the odds of this baby have great parents?

Higher than most...just be sure to do the QUAD testing when your doctor offers it and that will tell you your risk factors and go from there.

If you have concerns, which are valid, consider genetic counseling and an amniocentesis. You need to discuss all this with your doctor or midwife.
