ok, the instructions say *3dc in next sc, sc in next lp**, ch 5, sc in next lp; rep from * to last sc, end at **

I understand the abbrivations and I know what to do when it is * to *, it is the ** that is confusing me do I do the instructions between the * and the ** all the way across then do the Ch 5, sc in next lp at the end or do I do what is between the * and ** and the Ch 5, sc in next lp all the way across? I hope you know what I mean

Ok, it sounds like you are doing the diamond trellis pattern. If I remember correctly the problem you're having is a pattern error. Here is a link to another question on here that was answered correctly.

It means to follow the instructions from * and on through the instructions after the ** all the way across, but you end the row or the round with a sc in the last lp - because it states to end at **.
Further on down in the pattern it may refer you back to the instructions saying for you to repeat from ** and that's why there are two **'s in that area of the pattern.

Repeat the parts between the * and the other * as many times as the pattern says. When you do that, ignore the ** until you get to the last repeat. On the last repeat, DON'T stitch the part after the double **. You are going to be ending with the sc after the three dc. I hope this helps.
