My company has purchased us 28 ft trailers to pull behind our pickups. The trucks will be 4 door with a 8ft bed that is almost 26ft with a 28 ft trailer to pull behind . The trucks will be diesel. My question is can we fuel up where the big trucks fuel or do we have to fuel out front where the cars fuel. We have company master cards and if we can fuel up where the big truck do, can we use the cards at the pump. Thanks for answering this Question. David

With that size trailer, and you needing diesel fuel, you are going to be much better off at the truck Island than the auto area!

There is no hard and fast rule, but if you go to the truck islands, no one will complain.

I would suggest that you use the truck islands, due to the length of your vehicle....

Something to keep in mind when fueling at a "big" truck island. The pumps there are set up to fill a tractor's fuel tanks in about 5 minutes. That can be up to 300 gallons of fuel. What I'm trying to warn you of is this.... DO NOT open the handle on the pump all the way while fueling your truck. You will be able to fill the tank on your pickups in about 30 seconds. The pressure will build up in the tank and blow fuel back out the filler neck. Also... do not walk away from the hose. These pumps get used alot and sometimes they don't like to shut off... It can make a big mess in a very short period of time.

Most pumps nowadays will accept your card at the pump, but if you need a receipt, you will probably have to go inside to the fuel desk to get it. One word of advise.... regarding "truck stop courtesy".... When you have completed your fueling, pull your truck/trailer through the fuel island, so the rig behind you can start their fueling while you get your receipt.

One more item.... remember that the "backing truck" always has the right of way in a truck stop. You can see them, but they may not always be able to see you. After dark, use your park lights until you get to the entrance back onto the street. That way you won't blind anybody trying to back into a parking spot.

Good luck and safe travels....
