The Polish are a wonderful people.
Too many Brits lump them in with all the other immigrants who simply wish to take advantage of our good nature and sponge off our benefits system.
Poles are different. They work hard and are genuinely looking to improve their status without plotting against or denegrating the host nation.
A lot of immigrant communities would do well to learn from them.

Polish culture is a Catholic Slavonic culture. Until WWII, Poland had the largest proportional population of Jewish people in the world. Poland has a very strong national identity. I've never been there, but I've heard that the people are very welcoming and hospitable, in keeping with Slavonic tradition.
Where I live, London UK, there are lots of Poles. They are very friendly, in my experience, and great fun to go out drinking with. On the other hand, my previous doctor was Polish, and she was the most compasionate doctor I've ever had.

Citizens of Poland are Polish. You can learn more about them by going to your local public library and asking the librarians to help you find books on the topic.
You can also "Google" something like 'Poland + Culture' and see what you get. It's a long and colorful culture and history.

They are all over the place. I'm sure some of the kids you got to school with are Polish or may have some Polish background.
