So if it is okay, then my dad can't call the police on him or do anything of that sort right? Isn't the age of consent 17 in SC?

The age of consent in South Carolina is 16, so you're fine.

If by dating, you mean having sex, the age of consent in South Carolina is actually 16 years of age. Therefore, if you are having a sexual relationship it is perfectly legal. However there is a catch. If your parents do not approve of your relationship, they can go to a court and get a restraining order which would prevent your boyfriend from seeing you until you turn 18.

There are no laws that restrict "dating". However when you take it past a handshake to say goodnight is when problems arise. Age of consent in your State is 16 that doe snot mean your BF is out of the woods. Use caution when texting, emailing, phone calls etc all carry Federal regulations. No sex talk, chat etc! furthermore even though age of consent is 16 your Father can legally forbid you from seeing this man (yes hes a man) and even seek a protective order. So lets keep it simple. Dating is fine but if you take it further there can be problems and even with no problems Dad can still forbid the relationship and if you disobey him your Bf can be thrown in jail

Do you mean "dating" = "have sex with"? In that case, he might be guilty of statutory rape until you become of age. On the other hand, in South Carolina the age of consent might be < 17.

I thought age of consent was 18...A friend of mine back in junior year of high school (I live in SC) was dating a guy who was a freshman in college, and she said that the age was 18. I may be wrong (or maybe she was).

It's not illegal to date at either age. But if your question is about sex, it is likely NOT statutory rape since you are 16. If you want to get married you'll need parents' permission.
My suggestion is that you date only until you are a little older.
