Do your kid a favor--Don't! I still remember the childhood trauma we suffered when the water dish spilled and the chicks all caught chickemonia and died in agony. Sooner or later they all die. My sister and I still talk about it decades later.

Chicks are no longer chicks 2 to 3 weeks later, they're chickens. You need to have the correct food, a protected place for them to stay, and to know how to raise a flock because what you're going to have is livestock.

Dumping them when they're no longer 'cute' is hard on the shelters and the chickens themselves. If you live inside city limits, there's almost certainly restrictions against livestock--the city ordinances are pretty much the same across the board for stuff like this.

May I suggest you try a different type of bird?

Chicks, as in chickens, don't stay cuddly and sweet for very long at all.

Are you prepared, really to take adequate care of two fully-grown chickens?

And a lot of cities don't allow them, anyway, if you're in one.

Try getting a parakeet, or maybe a lovebird or a cockatiel. These birds are much more suitable to keep as pets.
