It seems to me that almost every team in the NFL has at least an adequate quarterback except the Bears. Now perhaps one or two teams are worse off but come on, why have the bears had nothing but terrible quarterbacks in the last several decades? Why can't they just find a good enough QB? Not a Tom Brady or Patton Manning, just someone who can do a satisfactory job, why is that so hard for this team?

That's a good question. The Bears have not had a good quarterback in two decades now.

I think part of it is that the Bears have not put a priority on finding a good quarterback. Quarterbacks have been available in free agency, but the Bears have not actively pursued them, likely because the cost of obtaining one was perceived to be too high. It's hard to say whether the Bears would give up one of their defensive stars or a couple good draft picks to get a second-tier quarterback. And it would be a second tier quarterback, mind you, as first-tier quarterbacks don't get traded very often.

The Bears just have to draft better and develop the quarterbacks they draft. Heck, Brady was hardly a first round pick out of college. In fact, I'm sure the Bears had a couple shots at him before the Patriots took him. It's all about recognizing college talent and developing it.

Perhaps the Bears have a hard time with this because of their tough "Monsters of the Midway" mindset, where winning is done by playing good defense, and a barely competent offense will get the job done. And heck, that was almost good enough last year for the Bears, and it was good enough for the Ravens a few years earlier, so I'm not faulting the formula necessarily. Maybe getting a more offense-oriented coach would help them out, but that's hard to say.

There really arent good quarterbacks out there....

Let's look at the teams with great QB's - Patriots, Colts, Packers

Teams with very good, very promising QB's - Steelers, Cowboys

Teams with good QB's - Saints, Seahawks, Bengals, Browns?

Teams with good QB's who are not playmakers - Bucs, Jaguars

That's 10 teams. Favre will retire soon, Hasselbeck and Garcia are getting up there as well. After these guys, there is a considerable dropoff in talent (although Bulger, McNabb, and Warner all could must arguments, but all have had off seasons). Even counting them, that means that 1/2 of the league has a qb that is simply not that good. There have been 60 different qb's starting in the NFL this year.... 60! The Bears have had their struggles, but so has practically every team. Even with the young guns, who has taken a step forward this year? Certainly not Vince Young. Cutler? Campbell? Rivers? None of them especially impress me.

Remember the early 90s when there were a solid 15 qb's? Let's take a stroll down memory lane - Montana, Moon, Elway, Cunningham, Jim Kelly, Phil Simms, Boomer Esiason, Vinnie Testaverde, Steve Young, Aikman... Those are just some guys off the top of my head, and I think all of those guys were in the league at the same time! It's crazy to compare those guys to the likes of Eli Manning... who by the way is probably in the top half of starters in the league right now... very strange...

I personally believe that the Bears have had good quarterbacks over the years, but have allowed themselves to get into a situation where they let the fans squeal and create a quarterback controversy.

If I was running the Bears, I would get a decent veteran and stick with him while grooming a replacement over a couple of years. They could have had Culpepper or Harrington. Either one would be better than the three they have now.

What league are you watching? Most of the teams have QB issues.

Carolina (brought in a 42 year QB who's been out of the league for a year.
Miami
Tampa Bay (brought in a 38 year old guy)
Cleveland (just solved theirs this year)
San Diego ( Phillip Rivers has proven to worth a crap)
Denver (Still working with Cutler)
Arizona (Lienart is out and they are using a 38 year old back-up)
Detroit (Kitna sucks, but they don't have anyone better)
Raiders (have no real starter)
49ers (Alex Smith has been a bust)
Tennessee (Their second year QB looks bad too)
Houston (First year starter who was a back-up)
Giants (Eli Manning Sucks)
Jets (have moved on to a first year QB)
Chiefs (are using a first year QB)
Baltimore Ravens (Need a QB - Boller sucks)
Atlanta (has no starter right now)
The other teams seem set on a QB, but some of the ones listed above have their new QB and they stink right now.

The Bears are far from being alone with needs at QB.

The Bears management still thinks that the forward pass is just a gimmick. A passing fad, if you will.
Besides, quarterbacks cost too much.

I can't figure it out either. The last good quarterback was Jim McMahon. Harbaugh wasn't too bad either, but man have they had some bad luck with QB's. I'm hoping they try to get Cleveland's QB next year. Even McNabb would suffice.

QB's don't want to play in Chicago. Their system is run first, throw only when you have to. Unfortunately, they don't have a good RB either. They need to trade for a stud RB, and find a decent QB via the draft. Unless they can get Mcnabb in the offseason.

If they were smart they should make a trade for Derek Anderson because I know they are dying to use Brady Quinn.
