My husband is disabled, in that he has a hard time standing or walking very long. He has a degree and is very well-spoken and bright. He doesn't want to make too much, because he is on Social Security. We are trying to come up with a home-based business for him.
Any ideas?

I wrote a blog recently about advice on working from home based on my experiences in searching out a legitimate home based business. I invite you to read it if you like. There is a link in the 2nd paragraph of my profile here.

I think one of the most important things in having a home based business is getting educated on how to do it professionally. I am part of a free GENERIC International mentoring group and would be glad to share that information with you and your husband if you are interested. This group teaches many skills and was the main turning point for me to find the right home based business for me. You do NOT have to already be in a home based business to participate in the free mentoring.

Don't do anything that requires you to put money into it and investigate any business thoroughly before you give them any information about yourself that could be used to steal ID. There are too many scams in this area. I have heard some estimates say that 99% of work at home or home based business opportunities are scams.

the person who put the first answer on here is not a good answerer. You can not make money on a website that doesnt require you to pay to join the site. Otherwise where would the money come from to pay out to people? what you join free and just get free money?

I suggest you check out www.themoneytree777.com

They do require an enrollment fee but its TINY and they offer a money back gaurentee if things just happen to fail. BUT ITS FAIL PROOF.

The enrollment fee is only $7

All the info is there on the "How It Works" page and they're goin' on a special promotion right now which makes it even better.

If you sign-up when they ask who referred you put:

Administration

How about teaching/tutoring. Is there anything he is absolutely knowledgable about that he could do to help others (who are studying in college, highschool, or elementry school) at home. He could put an ad in several local papers, or you could place brochures on the bulletin boards at schools nearby with your number to tear out, and also on the local internet. Is he good at typing? He could type reports for students or businesses, that need them done quickly. Math/algebra tutors are probably wanted mostly.

All this can be priced hourly or by the job description. Check out what others are charging for this kind of service.

Like the other people said above me, don't fall into some kind of scam. If it sounds to good, and sais make money quick. It could be a scam. If you found a business such as this, then have the business checked out. Ask to speak to some of their past employees and present. Lottie, I'm sure ya'll would be in a better position to create his own business, than work for someone else. This way, both of you can keep track of your incoming profits/outgoing monies. So IRS or the goverment doesn't mess with ya'll. They just love doing that. I knew people who made big tips in NYC, but didn't report 2/4's of it. Another words, 2/4's was totally theirs. No I'm not suggesting you steal.

The goverment taxes for everything. It's so ludicrous. I think SOME things shouldn't be taxed, but that's commerce for you.

Since, he's well spoken he could teach those that don't speak english well. I would go at a very moderate price. Also, it would help the communication gap we seem to have in America. You could search for some, well priced workbooks in English or any other language he's good at, for his students.

Start passing the flyers out, and setting up the brochures at schools, and an ad in the local paper. Local website, I think cost much more, but better to look into this.

Does he paint? If he knows anything about color techniques, he could teach this too, on an hourly basis or more. My aunt does this on an hourly or two basis, along with her oil painting sales and social security coming in. It doesn't bring in alot of cash, because she's always painting the majority of the time. She hasn't let her age stop her she's 84.

If he's knowledgable/efficient in many catagories, then he could advertise for different things in one ad. Put his references/credentials/education on the brochure/ad etc.

I would be very supportive in his efforts to start such a business of his own. He probably wants to contribute as much as you have in the household. It's obvious, despite he's disabled in someway that, he hasn't given up.
So support him 100% in this.
How about pet sitting too. One dog at a time, to start. Just an idea.
If you would like to ask me anything, I can be of help with, email me.
