it's probably using a swap file on your laptop as your pc has not enough memory.. if its 512mb or less, thats why .. 1gb of memory is the minimum I would recommend for XP
and 2 gb for vista..
anything less, don't bother with.. as for memory look at crucial.com and it will find out.. or do a search for cpu-z and again it will tell you.. prices for memory.. look on www.ebuyer.com
in the meantime give ccleaner a run on it.. burn of any files you just need to access to cd or dvd to free up a bit of space..
also run the registry + cleaner tab on this>
http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/
then trial this , and run 1 click maintenance >
http://www.tune-up.com/download/
BUT memory is the best solution to your problem , you'll probably notice an improvement in performance if you increase it or double it.

Well, you have three options.
1. You can delete files you don't need and uninstall programs that you do not use.
2. You can purchase an external hard drive, which will provide you with a storage solution (although it will not be as fast as using an internal hard drive if it is connected to your laptop via USB). You should be looking for a WD My Book, as these are reasonably priced, reliable, fast and you can choose a storage capacity depending on your needs.
3. You can purchase an external hard drive, which you can transfer all of you files to (to back them up). You can then install a new internal hard drive. Once you have installed the new internal hard drive, you can use the external hard drive to back up your work etc. Alternatively, if you do not have any important files, simply install a new internal hard drive without purchasing an external hard drive. Hitachi, Toshiba and Western Digital all make good quality 2.5 internal hard drives.

Memory = operations
Disc space = storage
When you install any program the files are copied to your hard disc. When you use the program your memory loads it so it will function quickly. You will either have to delete something or add an external drive for more storage capacity.
You can compress files to free up space, but I would advise against it; too many potential problems.

Delete stuff you don't need, and uninstall programs you don't use.
If you need all the files and programs, then you need to install a bigger hard drive. You will have to ghost it or make a drive image with Drive Pro to the new drive. There should be instructions with the new drive. It might come with it's own ultilities cd or disk.
If you just have a lot of files and not programs, add an external hard drive.
good luck

No. Memory is like a brain kinda... if you have 1 gig memory.. it can process up to 1 gig of information at at time. Your Hard drive is where everything is stored.. files, programs, ect. click on the start button ( im assuming you have windows here ) then click control panel, then click add/remove programs.. and go through and remove what you don't want or need anymore. If thats not enough and you have a bunch of stuff you downloaded... then... click start, all programs, accessories, then click windows explorer. Find the stuff that u don't want in there and delete it... lol Just make sure u know what your deleting.

Turn the machine off and back on. Run defrag to defragment the disk. Clean out temporary files. Run any kind of disk clean up program that came with the system.

Backup your data to DVD burner if you have it? Only keep what your really need on that DVD. Files that don't change. You should also get USB 2.0 external HDD, one of those smaller ones 2.5 in size for laptop owners like yourself. They have them in different sizes now. Otherwise you would have to get another HDD for that laptop to increase your space.
So my advice is get a external WD laptop USB 2.0 HDD.
