Neither pays well, both are killer jobs, and both are great for people who want to help others. I have been an English teacher for 35 years--as part of the job I am also a social worker. One of my sisters is a social worker--as part of her job she teaches! They go together.

Definitely High School English Teacher!!! Social workers are even more stressed and overworked than teachers are, and they are given case loads that are impossible to handle! Teaching is a very demanding and stressful career too, but you can see the rewards right in front of you when a child gets that spark and WANTS to learn!

Definitely a high school English teacher. You get a winter, spring, and summer break! Not to mention the relationships you can develop with the other teachers and students at the school. I also hear that if you teach at a school in a "low-income" area, your college debt will be paid off, a 1/4 of it every year you work there.

HS English teacher, but only in a PRIVATE school, where the discipline can be meted out successfully, or the student is asked to leave.

I want to teach a LOT of material/character/nobility to my students, and disruptive students are not helping the learning process.
