The current invasion and influence in the Middle East and other countries has helped to seed American dissent and hatred across the world, compounding our effort to be seen as the diplomatic leaders of change we purport to be.

So I ask, if we had to do it all over again.. should we?

There are different angles to approach this.
First of, the invasion in Iraq was illegal and totally unnecessary. Iraq has been repeatedly shown not to have had any connections with Al Qaeda before the invasion. Since Saddam's overthrow, there is the presence of Al Qaeda style groups.
So anyone who thinks Iraq war helped is just being gullible. If anything just a whole lot more people have been pissed off and there is now a vacant and tumultuous breeding ground for terrorist groups because they have been given a reason to hate the US (simply confirming their view that US hates Islam..whether or not you agree with it).
What I find hilarious is that all of the terrorists came from Saudi Arabia (except 2 I think)...and yet the US is ever so friendly with that nation. If 9/11 really was the motivating factor, why not invade them?

Second, do you fully believe in your government? The government has been the one in control of determining when to change the terror threat colors. They are the ones responsible for media sensationalism and propaganda. How do you know that when they said the threat level is high today...it actually is?

Third, sure we havent seen another terrorist attack on US soil yet, but it could still occur. Before 9/11 the last attack had been in 1993 I believe by Osama in NY though with far less harm. You've got to count in the time it takes to plan and train.

Finally: Al Qaeda is not an identifiable group, it is an ideology. You cannot attack an ideology not eradicate it with weapons. It will persist within your own borders and outside. You just have the image of bearded men sitting in caves with a US map.
The ideology can persist anywhere amongst any class i.e. American youth.
The ideology has to be tackled in other ways; invading Iraq simply added more fuel to the fire.

No you are not safe in America till all islamic terrorists are wiped from the face of earth. 9/11 was the result of apathy America shown towards the terrorist else where in the world. It is well known that all the terrorist and jehadi movements are funded by Saudi Arab and trained by Pakistan. America needs to launch massive operations in these two countries if it wants to safe guard lives of it's citizens in future.

We still have home-grown terrorist groups to worry about and I fear them more than terrorists from the Middle East. That's because they already are here and they blend in quite a bit better. I consider the shootings at the mall in Omaha and at Virginia Tech to be acts of terrorism.

Well yes, alot of people look down on us for whats going on, but we are safer. Those people won't come bomb us or believe that killing Americans or anyone from a different religion will give them 72 virgins. The invasion was necessary especially after they came on our soil and killed our people. That took alot of balls for them to do, but I bet that dream of 72 virgins made them all sorts of crazy.

They shouldn't be allowed to grow into a bigger threat than they ever have been before, or we will suffer the consequences in larger numbers.

The Global War on terror has resulted in the death or incarceration of virtually all of Al Quedas trained terrorists.

Another indication of our success is that prior to 9/11 we suffered one successful major AQ attack on us every two years. AQ has not been able to even attempt a major attack on us since.

And our actions have not caused other countries to hate us - it merely caused them to show their true colors.

BTW are you aware that in the past couple of years Canada, Germany and France all elected new governments whose platform was repairing their relationship with the United States?

We are not safer.
The world hates us more now.
And to the female who said they attacked us they didn't. Look up footage from bush or cheney being asked this. Osama bin Laden attacked us. NOT IRAQ. They were never connected. This is common knowledge, not democratic propaganda. People believing this is a problem.
