My wife recently broke her leg, and I've been charged with a lot of her care. Lately, she seems to get upset and depressed easily, even going from elated to depressed within minutes over the slightest thing. Her biggest moment of happiness lately was her doctor's appointment, during which she gushed to me about how wonderful and good-looking the office staff is. She even went so far as to ponder if she married someone like that...handsome, successful (I make average wages and have battled a weight problem all my life.) She had previously gushed about how great a classmate who lost weight looked. However, when it comes to me, she seems to oppose my desire to get in shape. I honestly feel like she's not attracted to me anymore. I'm at a total loss.

I think it's sad your wife treats you that way. You should find out exactly how she feels about your marriage.

Sorry to say but your wife is mentally abusing you. She shouldn't be talking about how good looking her doctor was and what it would be like if she married someone like that. She is making you feel bad about yourself. Do not allow her to make you feel that way. I think she doesn't like herself very well so she is taking it out on you. When someone points fingers at a person there is usually two pointing back at them. If you gained a lot of wieght during the marriage that usually reflex on you using food for a void you are missing. If you want to get into shape then that is up to you not her. She is suppose to love you until death do you part.

She sounds very immature...for what it's worth my Hubby looks and is built like Santa Claus...and I absolutely adore him......maybe she thinks she's motivating you but at the same time thinks if other ladies start finding you attractive after a loss of weight she might have to compete with them...or may even loose you to one.....do what you need to do for you, hon, to be healthy and.if she loves you she'll accept who you are, and you are a packaged deal . Good Luck!

If this represents a sudden and radical behavior change it could be related to her health issues, perhaps some medication she is taking has affected her mood. It could also be depression from being incapacitated...you didn't say how her activity had been affected. You also didn't mention her age, it could be hormonal or age related problems. Go to her doctor and talk to him about what you have noticed, if he doesn't have any insights, go to a counselor with your concerns and if possible try to get your wife to go with you.

I'm always tellin my guy I want to fattin him up so no girls will look at him! (He's cute-you probably are too). You sound like a great husband, shes lucky to have a good guy like you...hang tight till she "gets back on both feet".....best wishes to you both! Have a nice holiday.......Missy

Get in shape for you, not for her. You don't need her pernission to be healthy and to feel better about yourself. I'm sure if you do, she will stop her disrespect for you. Focus on your self,,,,you are not chopped liver!
