When a blunt object is struck against bone most often the bone will give before the object which could cause hemorrhaging or a bone could be driven into the brain itself...not to mention the damage that is being done with the brain smacking around in the skull from the beating.

A baseball bat is a heavy blunt instrument easily capable of inflicting fatal damage to a skull (especially a lightweight aluminum one--bat that is, not skull). A minor league 1st base coach was killed last season by a ball flying off a bat, so you can imagine the damage the bat itself would do. By the double decker bus, I'm guessing you are in the UK. Let me put it this way...a baseball bat isn't a cricket bat (which I'm sure could still kill someone, but not nearly as easily).
Hell, there have been boxers killed by repeated blows to the head with PADDED boxing gloves...if THAT can kill, certainly a strong person wielding a bat can.
Sorry for your friend's loss.

A baseball bat or any other object - golf club, hammer, etc - can kill a person if they are hit on the head hard enough. The skull fractures and the brain is destroyed. They can also be killed if they are hit across the back of the neck - the spine is severed or severely damaged and the result can be fatal.
Yes, it is very sad, but it can happen.

The human body in quite fagile and vulnerable in certain spots. A strong with an object less powerful than a baseball death can cause death if executed correctly. Baseball bats have the potential for creating a lot of power in their strikes. That is their design and purpose, although for hitting baseballs rather than people. Depending on the size of the person and the strength of their bones, nearly every bone in their body can be broken by a bat that is swung hard enough. And if a bone can be broken with such power, death is a very possible outcome.

Its a blunt object and most bats today are made of metal not the good old fashion wood and are heavier than they were. Its sad but not ming boggling as to how a bat to the head could kill someone

a baseball bat is solid wood and the bats are made specially so they won't break so easily
basically, picture this: with a baseball bat, you smack and orange with it and what happens? the orange explodes
sorry for making it sounds graphic and i'm very sorry about the loss of your friend, but see a baseball bat for yourself and you'll see how hard they are
oh, real bats are usually made of aluminum or wood, both very hard and they are used to hit balls that go 90mph or faster
I'm sincerely sorry about the person that was killed
hope everything is better =]

A person can easily be killed by blows to the head, by a bat or any hard object. Even if the skull is not cracked, the brain will be bruised due to extreme trauma.

That's called blunt force trauma. It means that they received trauma (damage) from being hit with a blunt object (so, not a sharp object like a knife). This is the same way most people die in car accidents - hitting their heads against the windshield or another part of the car. Any blow to the head can kill you in a variety of ways.

Wow I am sorry to hear that.. but remember that soft spot on your head when you were a baby.. the pressure of a metal or wood bat could cause considerable damage. Not to mention damage the brain which tells your body what to do.
