I rarely give thumbs down unless it is an impolite answer insulting people or not a helpful answer at all, for example an "I don't know" answer.
If I see something clever and witty I will certainly laugh and
give thumbs up, not thumbs down because most people do so. They have low self esteem and feel as if they won by giving thumbs down. I don't have such an inferiority complex.
If the question is fun then I will react accordingly, but I came here to Y!A to seriously help people and not just bully around!
Bullying on the net is something so common and it is there because some guys just don't have the guts to do it out on the real world, such cowards.
And if an answer is neutral I don't give either thumbs up or down.

I rarely give thumbs down. The only times I do is because they said something I REALLY don't like or disagree with.

i only give people a thumbs down if i think there answer is ignorant or invalid
i wouldn't do it over something trivial like an icon or if i just had a different opinion, people think differently

I give thumbs down when an answer is racist, rude, or I disagree.

I only give out the thumbs-down if the answer is either offensive, misleading, or just lacks good ethics. I never do this to be cynical.

Never have given anyone a hands down yet. If I don't like the answer, I leave it alone.
