Look closely at a lot of the answers here and you will see people who don't really care about you. They are saying things like "do whatever you want," "be whatever you feel like." And even though you are a young guy, I bet you are old enough to see the lack of compassion and common sense in such answers. In this world you can't do whatever you want, nor be whatever you want. That's reality. And being young as you are, you are facing important choices about everything in your life. The people that are going to help you out in this are people who have faced those same choices and know you well enough to provide personal advice. So my advice is to listen to people who truly care, not people on Yahoo answers that will just tell you whatever you want to hear, or whatever they think is easiest for themselves. This is a *moral* question you're asking, which is the most important type of question. The answer will shape you as a person, so don't take it lightly, and don't get caught up in the storm of popular culture and emotion-based, situation-based morality. Listen closely to your conscience, and act only when you have the clarity of thought that is worthy of being acted on. That's the best answer you can hope for here in this context. Not just a simple "It's ok to ignore everyone important in your life, and just be gay."
My two cents

being gay is no more wrong than being straight; just different. Unfortunately many people cannot stand others who are different thus we have so much bigotry and hatreed in the world.
So, date guys if they are a better fit with who you are and neve rlet anyone tell you that being true to you is wrong.
Changing your sexual orientation is like trying to convince your mother to paint the house passionate pink with big purple dots. It ain't likely to happen.
And I am glad you are happy the way you are; to be otherwise would make you a less than happy person and I don't like dating unhappy guys.

There is nothing wrong with being gay, and your teachers and counslers at school are simply ignorant (like most people in the world).

Of course it's not wrong, Kev. But that's easy for me to say, and you know in your heart that you are not wrong. What is more important is that you gather the tools and resources to help you cope with the reality of who you are.
Most useful to you right now might be a network of people who can offer support, and will be in your corner as you make the decisions you will eventually need to make. (It shouldn't have to be such a big deal, but in this warped society, it is.)
I don't know what all is out there (no pun intended =), but I do know that PFLAG will support you and they can also steer you to other resources. Here is a link to a GLBT page on their site.
You are who you are - and who you are is good!
Love,
-Z

Is it wrong to be straight? No on both questions. Just be yourself, ignore those that make you feel guilty for being you. I don't think it's possible to change who you are, no matter how hard some people try.

I honestly don't care about a person's sexual orientation as long as it isn't the first thing I learn about you. I don't feel the need to make you aware of my sexuality and don't know why anyone feels the need to tell me theirs.

Do what you want.
Nobody tells you if it's right or wrong, and don't let them. Live your life being yourself. If you wouldn't, then you wouldn't even be living life...
and being happy is what's most important.

There's nothing wrong with being gay. Who cares what other people think, be who you are. As long as you're a good person, that's all that matters :-)
