It's easier to write a free verse poem, one that doesn't rhyme.
Make your lines somewhat short. Try describing something- a tree, your dog, your brother's shoe... Just make it nice, descriptive language. Use similies and metaphors- what does your item/person make you think of?
Most of all, have fun! Poetry really doesn't have to be stressful.

You can write a poem about almost anything. This is just my criteria, but you might be able to get something out of it.
Vocabulary and spelling is important. Try not to use the same word over and over again, it just gets to be too much.
Oh, and don't do false or fake rhymes, like 'time' and 'mine'. They just don't work together. Also rhymes like 'firelight' and 'moonlight'. Compound words are tricky, so if they end with the same word, don't rhyme them, they look tacky.
Finally, make sure you keep on track, unless the initial point of the poem is to be random. But those poems never turn out very good.
I wish I could do more, but unfortunately, I have to get a better look. Type it out, and if you want send it to me. You're always welcome.

think about words as ingredients in a magic potion or notes in a song. Don't think about what they mean, but feel the words. Let a word combination or poetry line sit on the tip of your tongue and contemplate the flavor. It doesn't need to make sense. In fact, it's better if it doesn't. Let go of your reasoning mind.
Go to a place inside yourself you often visit, like when listening to your favorite music or day-dreaming or absorbed in a mood. Hold onto that feeling and allow the words to come together that best allow that feeling to come through. You're not "describing" a feeling, you're giving a feeling form and substance.

Pick a topic and then just start writing some phrases about it. Then you can go back and try to make every other sentence rhyme with each other, or every two lines rhyme, etc. Its not necessary that a poem rhyme, but it makes it flow a little prettier.

What turns you on? What do you care about? What annoys you? What do you turn over and over again in your mind? What's beautiful to you? What's ugly? Whom do you love? Whom do you hate? What do you think about yourself? About God? About your country? About your friend or relative? About your pet?
Once you pick a topic, write down some key ideas or phrases that describe how you think or feel about that topic. That's the beginning of your poem.
BTW, a poem doesn't necessarily have to rhyme, unless you want it to, or unless that's part of your assignment.
Good luck and God bless!

I love writing poems... think of your subject and list any words you want to use first. Remember, good poets write and re-write their poems over and over until it is the best they can make it, so don't think you have to get it perfect first time. Have a go, you might just enjoy it...... Good luck!!

It is easy, just right about what you feel. Poetry cannot be summoned, it must come to you.
