If all they are doing is a urine analysis, then yes, you are correct. other tests such as blood and hair analysis can detect a plethora of other drugs, but most companies don't do that (too expensive). so, most of the time, these tests are just for show, and pretty pointless. though, i think part of the objective is to discourage drug use.

I understand that up to 50% of the population has smoked pot so would be logical this the largest percentile of what would show up on a drug test. If that be the case a few Canadian Prime Ministers, (not as sure in the USA) would have been out of work. I don't think that smoking pot in small amounts should be a determining factor in employment, however to be on the safe side would abstain for at least 30 days prior to an interview if such was to be tested. There are just as many so called legal drugs that can hamper ones ability to perform., but can totally understand an employers view depending on the employment sought, I dont really want a pot head flying an airplane, but do think there are more important issues, the rare instance of pot smoking does not make one a pot head and in such cases just be wise.

Because someone that can not figure out how to avoid drugs for 30 days before applying for a new job does not deserve the job. Someone that can not stop an illegal activity for 30 days has a problem that they are unable or unwilling to control. As such, that puts the employer at risk. Since the person is already doing something that is illegal, why is going to work going to stop them? It won't.
Even if they are not going to create a danger by being at work high, no one can show they will be more productive. On the contrary, it is likely they would sit in their cube and contemplate their hand. An employer has the right to expect an employee to give 100% effort.

I wouldn't go as far to say that pot smokers are dirty losers who also smoke crack on the weekends, but I will agree in general if you are high you are less productive and more prone to making mistakes. I also agree that if you want a job badly enough you should be able to abstain for 30 days and if you can't you may have a problem. Just one persons opinion.

Pot stays in your system for 30 days no matter how much you smoke everything else is gone quick with lots of water and only a short time frame

Actually, our company just instituted a new policy - random hair tests, they will test back 90 days - so anyone and everyone gets "caught"

Not true. There are other types of drugs which can be discovered for weeks with a proper drug test.

"busting pot smokers who are not dangerous"
It is a biggest mistake.
Pot smokers deadly dangerous not for pot smokers only but for people around .
Do not trust people who say pot is not dangerous and you can't be addicted to pot.
It is just one more way to grab your money like cigarettes and alcohol . And that people want to open that additional way and start explayning to you that pot is not dangerous.
