Occasionally, when I open the lid of my Inspiron 8500, the resolution has dropped to 800x600. Sometimes it will quickly change itself back, but other times it just stays that way. I have an ATI mobility radeon 9000 video card and I've tried updating the drivers. I've also read about other ppl fixing this problem by changing 'LidBehavior' keys in the registry, but I think this only works with Nvidia cards, b/c there are no such keys in my registry. Any ideas?

We have an Inspiron 6400 that periodically changed resolution similar to yours. This was with an Nvidia card though.

Dell tech support suggested going into msconfig and disabling a couple of the startup nvidia items. (which they said were not needed) The resolution has not changed since - many months.

You might give them a call.

Reload the original video driver. There should be a directory on the hard drive where the drivers are stored. Sometimes updated files will mess everything up.

I have a Dell Inspiron 8500 that I use.
