I was in Amsterdamn once and I thought it was great, I actually stayed in Utrecht...?

Is it hard to learn Dutch, can an /english speaker make a living in Holland till he learns Dutch....etc etc

wow, you don't hear too many people say i stayed in Utrecht, i am from a small town just outside of Utrecht called De Bilt. learning dutch can be difficult but if you set your mind to it you can do it, it's better if you hear someone say the words/sentences so you know how to speak it. but before you can work here and have a permit, you have to speak it , so good luck on your dutch or better yet.

Its not hard to learn Dutch..you just have to set your mind to it indeed. Learn and practise real time when you go shopping or anything outdoors. It might take a while but once you can speak it its easier to get a job. It might not be the best job but from there you can search on and learn dutch more. Watch Dutch tv, read as much as you can(sounds strange but start reading kids books even). Good luck.

Eka: I do believe the Dutch are too eager to speak English. Trust me I see living prove of it almost everyday. Most of the Dutch have been taught English in school at a young age.

Many people in the Netherlands work without speaking Dutch at all, but it will improve your changes as well as the quality of life if you do speak the language.

Learning Dutch is not too hard, but you will have to be persistent to get the people to talk Dutch with you, as most Dutch switch to English as soon as they hear your accent.
You will not likely learn Dutch without an accent, but enough to get by should well be within reach.

The best way is to go to a course based on your level of education/ability and start speaking Dutch (and nothing else) as soon as you have a starting knowledge.
