I started working at my company about 8 months ago, so was unsure about how the holiday gift scenario was going to play out. I got couple of gifts, but i had nothing for them (not that they looked like they were expecting something) what do i do besides saying thank you?

Thank you note or if you wanted to bring in something the next time you work. You could even bring in something for everyone to share (plate of cookies). They probably aren't really expecting anything so just even saying thank you is enough. It's really up to you.

Sidenote: I always keep a couple wrapped "safety gifts" on hand in case this happens to me (and it does). It's always something neutral and fairly inexpensive - candles, box of candy, etc.

You really should have asked if there was going to be a grab bag or gift exchange since you were unsure about the holiday traditions.
Now it would be nice to send the gift givers a nice Thank You card or invite them to a pizza lunch.
