first of all , i hope that you know what you're doing , because soon after the bettas breed(about a month) you will have to seperate every singly male fish by itself , because they will fight till death , now i am talking aBOUT AT LEAST 90 BETTAS , anyways , the male betta should be comfortable in the tank and well familiar with it , and you have to use the betta breeding kit , otherwise you'll have no luck at all , and make sure that your betta is not too old or not too young , because as they grow , the become sexless ( not a male and not a female) and maybe everything is well in your aquarium , except that your not giving the betta any time and privacy , because bettes are smart and may notice you , hope it helps

You're just dropping random females in with your male?

He's stressed and until he's comfortable again, he's probably not going to be making nests. You have to condition both the male and female BEFORE putting them together in the same enclosure to spawn.

Why are you even attempting this? You're very likely going to wind up with injured fish or worse. Even if you're successful you're going to have potentially a hundred or more fry to care for. Are you able to provide them with growout tanks and keep each of them fed a proper diet?

If you're sincerely interested in learning how to breed bettas, I suggest you visit your local library and pick up a book on the subject. Alternatively, you can find resources online:

the best way to do it is through conditioning, after the first(or a few)sometimes betta will get lazy/stubborn(just wont blow)Age is also a major player as is the opposite young virgin fish(how long have you had it&how long has it been alive)
I condition mine for 2wks,male&female do not see each other in this time.Feed both parties well.Black live worms for the female(increases egg count&makes it easier for male to coil&squeeze,if well rounded)Not for him(too high in protein)(aid swim-bladder/obesity ect)In the morning i put male into ready tank&let him aclimatise&usually he begins to build(here you could place her near)to encourage him to build,or add female&monitor behaviour,he'll usually chase her away till he is finished building, then he will becon her under the nest&courtship will begin(explain another time)
I feed both up in morning&introduce female straight in to his tank@lunch time and they have almost always spawned by days end.(just one way that works for me)Remove female after spawning(several hrs@least)Treat any wounds&place in clean water&feed well. She will be ready again in 16days.
Basically your betta is sulking for some reason(could be because you changed women on him)a study is being done to test the theory that bettas may choose females(traits&colour)that they like/can see(colour?another theory test)Most say there's no truth to this, but i have a pair(m+f combtail)&he's@prime age/health(for breeding)&does but only with the ct-girl&her to(only spawns with him!)I have tried them with dozens of others(they tear them all apart!some wicked finnage torn/shred for nothing..)Never fail with each other(4th spawning i will try today)
You do know, your next hurdle will be feeding&rearing the fry(it's not as easy as they say)will help if you need(contact me)
Keep him warm,clean&well fed...like all males(he'll feel like a 'bit' soon enough)ha,ha
Good luck
What kind&colour is/are yours?How many?
