friends and family not visiting me

Well, my favorite author is Dr. Hunter S. Thompson. If you know who he was, well, he led a crazy and a charmed life. But when he could no longer walk, run, swim or even move, he made the conscious decision to end it. He was 67. The thing that frightens me about getting old is watching my own parents seeping into dementia. I will end it before I EVER get that bad. My father told me he wasn't scared; he was just very angry at himself because he slipped and fell in the shower and he's angry because he cannot do *normal* things we take for granted, like walk, for instance. The fear of losing my mind and trust me, I am all watching it go down now, that's what frightens me the most. But I am standing by my promise. I will not go through that.

Well I'm 57 now, not in good health. What frightens me most is the possibility of having to go into a nursing or care home.

Alzheimers.
My grandmother and my uncle on my father's side both had it..
My dad became forgetful in his later years.
My mother had dementia.
I don't want to forget my life! My children, my memories, the good and the bad! Why continue to live if you can't remember?!

The change that you see through time, the pain of seeing loved ones from your childhood die, the pain of seeing so much vile, the pain of seeing so many in denial.
