Unfortunately there is nothing you can do legally. You can tell them your feelings but you cannot force them to quit.
Buy them some nice patio chairs and suggest smoking away from the baby at all times. As long as the fumes and smell is to a minimum the little one should be alright.

Nothing. Their grown adults, with a child. And smoking or cats do not cause SIDS.
To "Curly"...Smoking does not mean a child will get SIDS. Its an increased risk...but not a fact.
I don't mean to come off rude...but thats the real deal. Did the mother smoke while pregnant? And even then, you can suggest they not smoke, but they are the parents. Thats one thing people need to learn, we are only responsible for ourselves...no one else's actions. Just something you have to deal with....
Much luv.
To "Curly" again. Lol. No, when SIDS occurs...its not due to smoking. I'm sure those who had children pass from it, were not all smokers. There is no SURE evidence on what causes SIDS. Some say from laying a baby on its back or with covers on its face, then it breathes in its own breath (like carbon monixide). But a baby dying from SIDS would not be the result of cigarette smoke. If thats the case, I'm sure the doctors would have said for a definite fact...w/ diagnosis, SIDS is caused by second hand smoke.

You cannot control what they do in their own home unfortunately. Hopefully they are smart enough to smoke outside the home but if the mother smokes and is breastfeeing the nicotine and whatever else is in there will be passed on through the breast milk. I was born in 1958 and my mom smoked and I didn't die of sids...so it doesn't mean it will happen but it is not a good thing since they should know better in this day and age.

It is hard to see things like that, but other than telling them how you feel, there is not much you can do. You can try to provide encouragement and resources (for example, a book or article about the dangers of smoking around babies).

i think it's sad and i can see you're very concerned. unfortunately there's nothing you can do legally you can only suggest that the quit smoking or find a place where the baby isn't present when smoking. encourage them to quit. mention the health of the baby.
good luck!

to 'flychica'- smoking causes SIDS but cats do not
edit to flychica: yes it increases the risks but when SIDS happens that is the cause. I agree with the latter half of your statement though.
edit again- ok I see what you mean =)

You cant do anything.
Its aweful that they smoke with a baby in the house. Babies CANT defend themselves, its what makes them babies.
Thats sad.
