In 1965 the Dodgers won the world series but only hit 78 homeruns all year long during the regular season. Jim LeFebvre and Lou Johnson were the leaders on the team with 12 homeruns each. This is a two part question; 1- Has any team, since 1940, ever won the world series with less than 78 team homeruns? and 2- has any team won the world series, since 1940, with their team leader in homeruns finishing with less than 12?

By the way, Don Drysdale was 4th on the team in 1965 with 7 of those homeruns.

I'm sure if you look pre-1920, every team will have fewer than that. but from 1940 on, it's worth looking into...

1945 Tigers hit 77 (leader had 18)
1942 Cards hit only 60! (leader had 13)

those were both war years, so it's to be expected. I can't find a WS winner in this time frame who's HR leader had less than 12.

In the deadball era, sure. Since 1940? Probably not, and it wouldn't be hard to research it, but I have neither time nor interest right now.
