Yes, similar to how you wax skis or anything else.

It's gonna be hard to do well. You can't use a ski iron and it's gonna really ding up the board when you scrape the wax off.

I'm surprised your local ski hill allows them. I work at a pretty tiny resort and even we don't allow them.

If you can't afford a real board just yet, getting a season rental isn't a bad option. It's a lot better and safer than a plastic board.
