why arent we trying harder to modernize and fix africa. yea, we pour billions of dollars of aid into the entire continent. but most of the countries have corrupt leaders that wouldnt use that money to help the country. why dont we just pick 1 or 2 countries, the countries with the most promise and the best chance to become modern and help them. that country would in turn be able to give alot of aid to the countries surrounding it and the problems in africa would be solved alot faster.

why dont we actually try harder to fix it. africa has about 2 billion people that live there. if they had access to modern technology and were living in the same conditions we are in the united states or in western europe the world would be alot better. wed have 2 billion more people able to contribute to the advancement of technology and science.

while its true that no leader is perfect the majority of them pale in comparison to the vile that rules alot of countries in africa. all im saying is find one leader, one country that has an actual shot at improving and give the majority of aid to them, help them straighten out. with enough aid concentrated in one region all of those things like AIDS, high birth rate, all of those could be kept in check. spreading out alot of money around an entire continent wont help. but quickly building up one or a few countries within africa whose main goal would be to better the countries around it would bring about change quicker.

I agree with the 1st sentence of the 1st poster.

Also, society is for the most part tribal in the sub-Sahara countries. These customs & traditions go back centuries. Given that many of these countries have considerable natural resources, I'd like to see them do more to help themselves. One reason they cannot is many governments are riddled with corruption. Changes takes decades, even lifetimes. But it is possible - apartheid was abolished in S. Africa.

First, you can't force people to change.
As to corrupt leaders, where in the world is there even one country without corrupt leaders? I have never heard of one.
Secondly, people love to wallow in their ignorance; other wise, there would NOT be "2 billion" people living in Africa.
Thirdly, there is no way to choose "the countries with the most promise", but I would say South Africa.
Fourthly, the problems in Africa stem from too high a population, religion, politics, and the constant urgent need to have sex with anything that moves. After all, that is where AIDS originated, from parrots yet!

i can easily agree with u...we should fight corruption before we fight anything else...in a corrupt country whom to approach for the remedy...corruption is a self destroying bug..it eats away everything...it's like a son who eats away everything and earns nothing.... corruption is a big hole in the pocket of a country which survives on dolls..
