Red / Purple colour combination?

Question

I am so bad with combining colours that look good together. I have an awesome pair of red shoes (not a vibrant red red, but a duller red) that I want to wear to a dinner out, and was going to wear a black top with a dark purple lace tank underneath, with lots of the purple showing at the bottom... then black or dark grey pants.

will the red and purple look ok together?

No, not really. Try yellow/purple or red/green- these are opposites on the color wheel and therefore will look nice. Blue/orange is another one.

But when you say that the purple won't be right next to it, then yeah, I think it'll look all right.

They should look fine together. I have worn red & purple together and think it's a great combo. I would personally g with the black pants though. Grey can be a tough color when trying to pull things together. Theresa

I always though dark purple went with red fine...I guess that shows just how much I know.. lol Brown and black. White with...well...anything. But, don't listen to me, I'm the one who said red and purple go together! =P

It's not recommended that you wear red shoes UNLESS you have something with a bit of red in it. Purple and red are definately two colors that clash a bit

I think the outfit would look nice, but maybe a yellow trinket such as a bracelet would complete it. Because yellow is opposite purple on the color wheel, it would act as a complemenary color.

I love red shoes of all hues, but wouldn't wear them with purple
