Typically most retailers close on Christmas Day. In the past, K-Mart has made an exception, being open on Christmas Day, but hopefully they'll go back to being closed.
The second biggest shopping day of the year (after Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving) is the day after Christmas. So the employees need time off before stepping into that madness.

Most stores all around are closed. If they open at all they generally will close early for the day to allow their employees time with their families.
