It all depends on when you are going to see the person next. If it's someone you are close to.. no it isn't pointless. Best Wishes!

If you mean to give to them the next year no it isn't pointless and it will safe you a ton of money. I keep a stash of gifts that I buy the day after Christmas to give to people the next year this way I can give them something that I wouldn't be able to afford before Christmas. There are some great deals out there!

Heifer gifts make the perfect holiday gift. Your loved one will never expect a llama to be hanging on the mantle. And, what's more is that Heifer gifts keep giving and change entire communities. So, give a goat, wrap some bees, put a heifer under the tree and share the hope for a better future.
Your gift could help improve the lives of families around the world by providing bees and livestock or preserve indigenous culture and develop solar power systems in Tibet. With Heifer project funding, you choose where to invest your gift. You pick the projects that are most important to you. You decide how you'd like to change the world for the better.
For example: Gift of Chicks (US$20), Gift of Ducks (US$20), Gift of Bees (US$30), Gift of Rabbits (US$60), Gift of a Goat (US$120.00) or share the price of a goat with another giver (US$10), Gift of a Heifer (US$500) or share of a Heifer is (US$50), Gift of a Sheep (US$120)
Share of a Sheep (US$10)
Gift of a Llama (US$150)
Share of a Llama (US$20)
Gift of a Water Buffalo (US$250)
Share of a Water Buffalo (US$25)
Water buffalo from Heifer provide draft power for planting rice and potatoes, milk for protein and manure for fertilizer and fuel. A farmer can plant four times more rice with a buffalo than by hand.
Water buffalo haul heavy loads to the market, where the sale of extra produce brings in vital income for clothing, medicine and school. By renting their buffalo to neighbors, Heifer partner families can earn money for home improvements.
Protein-rich milk, strength to till soil, manure to enrich the land ... so many benefits. And, in turn, water buffalo are happy just to graze on coarse grasses and other plants not suitable for harvesting.
To make a donation in the name of a loved one go to the catalog page at the Heifer Project International website.
Happy Holidays!!

It is pointless to buy Christmas presents at any time. People either already have or do not want anything you could buy them.
