Being seen as weird is probably scary to most people, but if you put it like "original and creative" instead, it seems less undesirable. I can't help it; if I wasn't a big raging freak all the time, I'd die from keeping it inside I think!

Yes, I think it is. That's why we have a society (in the US) of followers. Kids want to be "different", so they get tattoos like their friends....they want to be "individuals", so they get pierced, like their friends. They want to be "independent", so the listen to the music, see the movies, read the books, wear the clothes, by the products that their friends do.
The concept of individual, original thought is not promoted in our society. It is devalued, and it is discouraged...mostly through our public school system and our popular culture.
We used to have a lot more individuals in this country...but they are slowly disappearing into a sea of those who want to be like everyone else, lest they be thought of as "un-cool", etc.

Yes because it rivals what people think to be "normal"...what makes it even more "scarier" is when others recognize and acknowledge an individuals creativity and originality.

It sure seems that way to me. If you try to be yourself you are talked about behind your back and made a fool out of. It's stupid that people are that judge mental. People should be able to be who they are and accepted. People just judge you on little details without ever really knowing you.
