Why did Democrat majority Congress's block universal health care in 1973, 1978 and 1993 ?

In 1973, 1978 and 1993, universial health care legislation was before Congress.

Each time, we had a Democratic majority Congress,

And each time, the Democrats tabled the universial health care legislation in committee and refused to allow it to be voted on.

the truth is because the past universal health care proposals entertained no options for people who wished to keep their current coverage. The current proposals have that, and far more options to give Americans a wide cariety of choices and promote competition among insurers.

It's a game they play, but the idea has and will always be a bad one.
I pay for my health care, you pay for yours and we'll all do what we can for those who have not. When aid is government mandated people feel entitled to a free ride, when they have to rely on the goodness of others you'll get back on your feet much faster...you'll always have the free-loaders attempting to rip us off, but getting the government out of the picture would be a much better idea.

Because its bad for the United States. I personally wouldn't want to have to wait 6 months to get a MRI or surgery if I needed it

Perhaps they saw it as wasteful or government programs that weren't needed? Of course there's always the greed angle that they'd lose all of the pharmaceutical lobbyists' money.
