What people think of it?
At first I thought it was a bit of a rip off of 28 Days later, but I think it was better done, the character build up and stuff.
The only bad (ish) part I thought was the way the cure was found and the film ended. It wasn't really the climax that I thought it should have been.
What were your thoughts?

Thanks for the responses. Would anyone (is anyone still reading this?) recommend me watching Omega man then, or would it be pointless?

To be honest, with an awesome name like 'I am Legend' I probably would have watched it whatever it was about...

I absolutely loved the movie, including the ending. It's such a good example of self-sacrifice. I go to Disney for happy endings. Will Smith has excelled (again) in his portrayal of a man desperate to find a cure for the disease that wiped out his world, and refusing to leave when he had a chance.

I thought it was good. Probably a 6 or 7 out of 10.
I haven't seen 28 Days Later, but I imagine there isn't a whole lot of originality when it comes to Sci-fi involving zombies.
EDIT:
@Above answer, Omega Man and I Am Legend are both based on the same novel.

It was a very good movie, but it is not a rip of 28 days later. It is actually a remake of another movie that was done once before. The original movie was "The Last Man on Earth" with Vincent Price. The remake of that was in the 70's with Charlton Heston "The Omega Man". The movie was more suspenseful than scary, in my opinion. It could have been better, but it was what it was.

I agree with Susie the self sacrifice was awesome but I did expect a more.. I don't know more maybe theatrical ending, you know maybe the woman and boy climbing out of the rubble a scene shot of the cure in her hand then closing it into a fist to show the determination and the fortress should have been way better than that, it really looked like the darkseekers could just scale the wall and be done with it. 8 out of 10

it was a good movie, but it seemed rushed. For instance, they were trying to show that Neville is going slightly crazy, but only once or twice, and they never really touched on it again or built it up until till he is completly nuts. All of a sudden he starts talking to dolls in the movie store. I was like WTF?...Oh I get it, he is kinda crazy and needing human interaction. What I loved was the suspense. It made you feel like you were there. It didnt have alot of music, so it felt like you were actually in the scene with him. The monsters were well made and pretty scary, I'd be f**kin scared if I ran into them. What I dont understand, is his decision making. He seems very concerned about security, and sustaining his own life in order to find a cure, yet he goes into "the dark" to get Sam, he goes on a rampage at the pier in revenge of Sams death, and he kills himself when he could have just hid in the tunnel thing that Anna did. Good movie, but could have been alot better: more plot/plot build up,more detail, more on his isolation and going insane.

I thought that movie was horrible. When a movie is based on one solo character, the movie tends to get boring kinda like Cast Away. I personally do think it was a rip off of 28 days, I am tired of these movies based on a virus killing humanity. If someone wants to view a movie based on that, I highly recommend 12monkeys, too bad it did not get the publicity and credit like I AM LEGEND. Will Smith's acting was precise, but the movie's script line was poor and didn't make sense, especially when he was rescued by Anna.

I enjoyed the movie, minus the ending. The rest of it was quite excellent, thanks to Will Smith's beautiful performance.
