Our whole family is spending Christmas Eve together over at our house and I am usually the one who makes Christmas fun for the younger kids (aged 5, 3, and 2) The other older people have lost the christmas magic... or so it seems... and I guess you could say i still know how it feels to believe in Santa.

How can I make Christmas Eve fun for them? Games, a christmas countdown, anything would be great. There will be snow present ;)

Thanks!
Em

Maybe I have simply pleased kids (almost 3 and almost 6), but I make appetizers for the day and evening (pizza rolls, mini-quiches, fruit and dip trays, a bunch of food) and we eat that thru out the day and just have a big party style atmosphere with Xmas movies and music and playing games, just a fellowship of family togetherness.

Make Christmas cookies, and everyone gets to decorate. Even the two year old can be guided in putting sprinkles on! Be sure to leave some out for Santa!!

Definitely get some children's Christmas books to read. And a holiday video or two.

If they bring some of their toys, help them wash and shine up their cars, fix the dolls' hair (maybe even wash the clothes), and then line them up in the hall "on display" so Santa can see how well they take care of their toys. That's what my mom used to have us do....mainly to keep us busy!!

Every now and then, stop and listen....saying, "Do I hear sleigh bells? .....Nah, I guess not." But get them in the mood to "keep their ears open!" Could even have an older helper...adult or someone else...to shake jingle bells outside the window....if they can be sure not to be caught!

If enough snow on the ground, definetly go play, at least with the 5 year old!! Make snow angels, etc. Then come in for hot chocolate and read the Christmas stories!

Get a little toy elf-doll to sit on the mantle or table. When everyone is out of the room for another activity, or simply not looking, have someone go in and move him to a different spot. Then when you all come back in, make a big deal that the elf ran away... you have to all go find the "michiveous elf" who is actually "Santa's spy." Can keep that up for probably an entire day!!

Get nativity set that has a removable baby Jesus. Wait until bedtime, and then have someone put baby Jesus in His spot in the nativity....the Christ is born!! And then sing "Away in a Manger."

Try ChristmasGamesAtoZ.com and it will give you some ideas about Christmas games for all ages (Even if you don't buy games you may get a few ideas and make them yourself). They have Christmas bingo and count the reindeer games.

Maybe make a gingerbread house and let the kids help decorate. Giant Christmas themed coloring books and lots of crayons too.

Read a short Christmas story to them.

Have fun and Merry Christmas

Have a building snow man contest. In order no one feels bad if they don't win first prize, give them all a little treat! Keeps them busy and eager! Your'e never too old to make a snow man! Or snow Angels! Supply them with the carrots and little things for the eyes and for the scarf.
Good Luck and Merry Christmas!

Read "'Twas the night before Christmas"

Watch Christmas movies, for their ages I would limit it to 30min movie so they don't get bored

Make red and green snacks or make cut out cookies ahead of time and let them decorate them

Everyone draw a picture to leave for Santa

With children that age the possibilities are endless. Have fun!! Merry Christmas!!

Make name cards and napkin rings for the meal. Simple, construction paper name cards using stickers and crayons (limited mess). Do a matching napkin ring by repeating whatever sticker or pattern on a piece of construction paper 2 inches by 5 inches, then staple or glue the overlapped ends to make a ring. Hopefully the adults present have enough sense to ooh and aah appropriately at their efforts.
Merry Christmas.

Cookies, hot chocolate, and lights. I plan dinner at the riverwalk (San Antonio) then a stroll to look at the lights, and a candle light service. Can't wait!

The best is to think positive, be happy, do nice things, respect and you will feel good. All will love you for that.
All the best.
