Does your mobo have sata connections on it? If so then get sata since it's available. But the ide drives are just as good and they are not on there way out. Hey the ide CD/DVD drives worked before sata came out didn't it.
AND LIGHTSCRIBE IS NICE I USE ALL THE TIME IT MAKES NICE DVD"S AND COLOR CD"S. The DVD's will have color in February.

How are funds for this project? If none get one with 4MB cache = 230.00us-300.00us very good drives.
2MB cache 20xDVD burner = 25.00-60.00us and they are all good drives. I have a 25.00 LG I bought last year for 40.00us and use it heavily and still going strong.

you should get SATA, PATA (IDE) drives are no more. If I where you I would go with Plextor o LiteON. Look for format compatibility, (verify what can play DVD-RAM, SVCD, etc). and software bundle. Regarding ligthscribe, I bougth one like two years ago and have use it like 4 times, better spent mony ys in supported formats and no ligthscribe.

See the SATA is good but it went warm when burn it requires good ventilation in the cabinet. Use Asus or Samsung I have Samsung 24 x SATA DVD Writer.

Most definitely get the lite on LH20a1h or LH20a1s or such. Check out the scores at cdfreaks.com. This is cheap, and one of the very best out there. I use it, zero problems, quiet.
newegg.com or tigerdirect.com are best spots to buy.
