We are about to find out. It is too bad that if we get a female President it will be Hillary Clinton but it could happen. Yes, Barack Obama could well be the first black President. I believe we have the best opportunity in history to make either of them president. Imagine someone who is not a white Northern European American and a Protestant for President. America has come a long way. Let's hope we can show the world we are really what we say we are and not elect another old white protestant man.

Not well. I'm all for it, but if you look at how women are treated, especially in the middle east, how would those countries treat her? Many men would be too arrogant to listen to a female leader, thus making international relations much tougher for the U. S. My guess is that only countries that treat women fairly would have any respect at all for a female president or vice president. At this point in time, a female president sounds like a good idea, but many problems arise, making now not a good time, but maybe sometime in the next 15-20 years.. We'll see then....

Ma'am I couldn't care less if the next president is black, white, pink or purple. It don't matter if they're male, female or in between as long as they do a good job and bring home all the troops from overseas.

I think a female president would be great as long as she has the experience needed and not just because of who her husband is

I think the best candidate should be President. Being black or female is irrelevant.

Now, if you think a black man should be President because "it's about time" and "affirmative action bull," I would say No.

Color or gender should have no baring on anyones decision.. Unfortunately it does as suggested by the poster.. pretty sad thought that someone would actually vote for color or gender when there are far more important issues going on in this world that color or gender can't solve or will even qualify them to make such decisions that will effect ALL of us.

There are better forums for striking points for equal rights but not to elect someone to run our country just because of their gender or color. Thats plain ignorance!

I don't think most people have any problem with a woman or minority for President, but it also matters what they think. We won't elect someone just for that purpose, although some would certainly cast their vote that way (which would be stupid), but nationwide they will have to at least come close to mainstream thought left or right and be regarded as qualified.

If the person is wise, confident, compassionate, able to make difficult decisions, and admit when they have made bad choices then work to correct them, then they should be president.

Being female, black, gay, transsexual, or anything else really shouldn't make any difference as long as they are a good leader.

How about Condi Rice? That way you kill two birds with one stone. Why should gender or ethnicity be a qualification for president? What happened to Dr. King's dream? Where all men (and women) are judged on character and the content of their hearts?
