But people who delibrately go out ( male or female) and end up rolling drunk . Falling in the street why should resources be used to pick them up . Shouldn't they be left where they drop? and serve them right. No matter what happens to them?

Badger you are putting words in my question that wasn't there. I never think rape is acceptable . But the point i am making is everybody is to blame but the drinkers themselves. Emergency services should be used for that purpose. Not for ferrying somebody who thinks its alright to poison their system and expect others to pick up the pieces.

RKO what are you on about ? read the question i am talking about young men and women whose sole purpose in life is to get so drunk they are incapable of anything. They then cause fights etc and ruin the evening for everyone else.

Thank you Jomamo and shady you both get the point I'm trying to put accross.

Hi Ariana, your'e getting quite a bad press on here but i understand exactly what you mean. Tonight i dropped some of my family off in our local city centre for a christmas meal with their friends at around 6pm. There were girls dressed in really skimpy outfits, no coats and being sick along the streets. Two community officers were trying to pursuade a girl of about 16 to get up off the wet pavement but she was too drunk to get to her feet and her friends were falling about laughing! If they are in such a state, either the police should cart them off or an ambulance - BUT - there should be a charge of £250.00 payable with one month or a custodial sentence. That would sharpen a few minds up. You do have to be careful as some people are genuinely ill and no charge would be attached to them. Perhaps we should have 'drunkard pickups'!

I see your point and to some degree agree with you but unfortunately the emergency services have a duty of care but I do think that they should be billed for the treatment they have received

I am going to be a bit harsh now but the cops should have a meat wagon so all the drunks are piled into the back and driven to a secure pound and left there the night to sober up. Then they should have to pay an automatic fine to be released, which would cover the cops expenses. If you cant hold your drinks don't drink. People forget that you can even die from alcohol poisoning.

Yes you are being a little harsh ,most people don't go out to get rolling drunk it usually just creeps up on them, then it's too late the drink has control, everyone is entitled to help when their in trouble no matter what the situation. But I do know where your coming from.
Have a Merry (not to merry)Christmas.

when i woke up face down in a cowpat in a muddy field, with no recollection of how i arrived there i realised it was time to moderate my behaviour
we all have to cross our personal Rubicon, and no amount of advice or criticism will change peoples behaviour, until they want to change it may be a better course of action to have a system of community service whereby if you are assisted as it were by this weeks drunk patrol, you go out the next week assisting people the worse for wear, so that you suffer the abuse/get covered in others vomit etc
make the recompense fit the misdemeanour

Tonight (friday 21st Dec) is called Mad Friday here in the Borders ! Last time I drove through the town where I live on this night I had all and sundry trying to get me to stop my car for a lift ! The hospital here is usually quite busy and we have quite a few peeps calling our ward for help. They think they can get in for de-toxing ! I am picking my son up later on tonight from his night out. I am working a night shift so am doing it in my time off. At least I will know he will be safe at his home.

Got son home just in time lol ! Had to help him into his house ! He fell asleep in my car and I heard noises and thought my break pads might be a wee bit worn ........ was him snoring ! Had to open the car window and get the cold on his face, shake him a wee bit but he is safe and sound and sleeping it off I think as have tried to call him to no avail lol !
Gotta luv kids lol !

Would you suggest we do the same thing to a diabetic who falls in the middle of the street after going into shock?

Would you suggest that we let a heart attack victim lie in the middle of the street just because it costs too much to get him medical attention?

Would you let a small child with terminal cancer lie in the middle of the street without any compassion?

Alcoholism is an illness....a disease, just like diabetes, cancer, gambling addiction, stroke, prescription-pill addiction, depression, drug addiction, Alzheimer's, restless leg syndrome, Lou Gehrig's disease, lung cancer, Parkinson's disease or dementia. The disease needs to be treated, not neglected.

There but for the grace of God go I......compassion and humanity actually have a place in this society.

Yes, you're being harsh...but I suspect it's because of ignorance, arrogance, selfishness and hubris more than it is because you might be a mean-spirited Republican. -RKO- 12/21/07

Yes, do you think that obsese people shouldnt be picked up either when they have some fat related problem or that pregnant women shouldnt be such a drain on our resources? Well they got themselves into that position didnt they.

I dont drink before you ask. Most of these drunken idiots work and so pay taxes before they go out and get rat arsed anyway so they arent that much of a drain

I agree with Shadysback. (Now there´s a first!)

My sister is a firefighter and they are often called out to ridiculous situations caused by drunken people who are are potentially keeping the emergency services away from real emergencies.
