I'm 15 and I guess the first reason I think of as to why I feel so low is teenage hormones but it feels so much more than that.

I have a sister with learning disabilities and it can be really hard at times. My Dad has also recently had cancer, and although he has been okay for a while now it affected me really badly. I have a lovely life with a caring mum and a loving dad but for about 3 months now I haven't felt like going out with my friends, I can't sleep very well, I feel like giving up on my grades at school as I'm not a very high achiever.
I've tried a few things to improve my mood suchas going to the gym as excercise is supposed to help lift moods and eating healthy although recently I have lost my appetite and these don't seem to be helping. The worst part of all this is that I feel like I can't talk to anyone because it doesn't seem like I have anything to be upset about. I can't talk to my mum because I feel constantly guilty for being so ungrateful. Please help!

Please find some one to talk to. If you can't talk to your mother, find a counselor, social worker, teacher at school, or go to a clinic with therapists. You ARE depressed, and it's not your own fault and you're not being ungrateful. It is difficult having a sibling with learning disabilities. They suck up a lot of your parents' time and attention. Your father's health has sucked up a lot of attention too.

You're making an effort to do the right things for yourself. Get regular daily exercise, eat appropriately even when you're not feeling hungry. It takes time, there is NO quick fix, so keep trying. Depression is like a grey blanket weighing down on you, but it can be lifted. It just takes time.

I am no doctor but I have suffered from depression before. It sounds to me like you might be depressed. With all that you have going on, that's understandable. Find someone, anyone to talk to. A teacher, a counselor, your parents, someone. Don't feel alone or embarrassed. You have nothing to feel ashamed of. I think a part of depression is feeling like telling your loved ones will place a burden on them. I'm sure your family loves you and will want to help. Exercise and eating right are good places to start, but just know there is help out there for you. Get an adult that you feel comfortable with to help you find what you need. Hang in there!

Key words are three months. Every one is down from time to time but that duration may indicate clinical depression. See a psychologist before taking medicine from a general physician. Often you can avoid meds that way. At your age I recommend avoiding medication if possible. Look at it this way; maybe your getting your bad luck behind you at a early age.

You are probably feeling down because of everything thats been going on in your life, but believe me things will get better if you have faith and trust in God. Your young and your just feeling down. Try to get some counsleing. My church has youth pastors and they are great. Try to find someone you can talk too. Sometimes knowing someone is hearing us makes us feel better.

You are in school right? You have the right to see a school counselor. Find one that you can develop a trust. they are pretty good schooled and trained. I would recommend one to you. Retired Social Worker. And I hope things will get better for you.

I think you are depressed but don't worry about it. Ask your mum if you can see a therapist before you do something stupid like commit sucide. All these things you mentioned are signs of depression so do something quick before it turns bad!
