after signing a lease agreement, i've had this vehicle for about a month. the "finance" manager calls me earlier this week, telling me i need to return the vehicle today since the "deal" didnt fall through. i asked what happens from there...do i get my $1000 deposit back or what? he tells me that they will have a check processed for me and it takes a week. is this true? what type of lawyer should i consult with, since i'm at the point where i have nowhere to turn?

This is a typical scam by dealer. You don't say where you are. They'll offer to let you keep the car, with additional payments. Contact your State's Attorney, Fraud Division IMMEDIATELY. Don't return it today, but get all your stuff out of it, in case they repossess it while you're getting this straightened out. Park inside a closed, locked garage, if possible. Call police immediately if some one enters your property/private property.

If you get out of this and get your money back, DON'T lease a car. It's generally NOT a good deal. You're paying a monthly fee for use of the car, plus maintaining it, and IF you drive too much, additional penalties. And at the end of the time period, you have NOTHING, no car, no equity. Better to buy a car you can afford, maybe not as flashy and expensive as a lease.

Tell them that you will return the vehicle when they have the check ready for you.
