it means "great queen".

I like Rhianna/Rihanna way better, because it sounds good in both English and Spanish.

However, I don't want anyone to think I named my child after a singer, I saw her live once, she can't sing live at all.lol

What's your opinion should I consider (if I go with this name) Rhianna/Rihanna or Rhiannon?

Rhiannon/Rhianna/Rihanna are all beautiful names.

I think you should go with Rhianna/Rihanna if you like it and if people ask you if you named the child after the singer, simply say no.

Rhiannon is my personal favorite out of the three choices, only because it's so pretty and uncommon.

Really, I think all of these names are lovely. IMO, go with what you really want, either way your child won't miss out on having such a gorgeous name. :)

I think 'Rhiannon' is much classier than Rhianna; it has sophisticated antiquity. For your own child, though, you must go with your own preference, and forget what someone MIGHT think. It's your child. As someone else suggested, I have a feeling Rhianna doesn't have that long a future in music, anyway.

One of the middle names of my first daughter is Sade, a native tribal name that I loved long before I ever heard of the singer, and a name already in my family (I am half Nigerian, as is the singer). Besides, the famous Sade is just over four years older than me, so we both grew up being aware of the name at the same time. Of course, some people will always assume that just because a person achieves notoriety, his or her name suddenly sprang into existence at his/her moment of fame, and no one ever knew of the name (no matter for how many millenia it has existed) before that.

If you live in an Irish popular part of the US, think North East, then no one is going to mispronounce Rhiannon. I actually considered this name too -- I think it's beautiful and uncommon. I think Rhianna is pretty too but I agree with you -- we also considered Ciara but another pop signer "stole it." :)

Congrats on your baby girl!

Edit: Small world! I just moved away from Jersey -- you'll be fine with either Rhiannon or Rhianna there. :)

I absolutely love the name Rhiannon. It's pronounced very similarly to Rhianna. but I like it because it's more traditional. It's also a song by Fleetwood Mac so it's a recognizable name.

Rhiannon for sure. I love it!!

The name Rhiannon is Welsh and means "nymph" "goddess" or "queen". She was the Welsh goddess of birds, horses, fertility and the underworld. It is a nice name!

How about the spelling Reanna to avoid associations with the singer? I like Rhianna too, however you spell it.

Idk....I really think they're both gorgeous! Can't really go wrong either way, but I think in spanish Rhianna would sound better. I think I like the name Rhiannon better though.

I think it's a good name. You should listen to your heart about your daughters name. It's a very important thought. Shouldn't be taken lightly. After all, you're naming a person that will have to live with that name forever unless legally changed. I chose Myah Leanne and Madison Rylee. They have personal meanings.

Go ahead and name her Rihanna. That is a pretty name and by the time your daughter grows up the singer will be forgotten.
